About Matt
I record audio from every lesson and provide it to the student afterward. This recording is a study aid, and when listened to in between meetings, increases progress on the instrument, dramatically. I know from experience that this method assists in advancing your skillset much more quickly, enabling you to get very good, very quickly.
I love working with people on a path of musical self-discovery. everyone's journey is different, and i like to customize each days lesson specifically for the student. Its all about the relationship, and it does not make a difference your skill level, experience, age, race, religion, gender identity, or other personal what-have-yous, i welcome all students equally, and i try to facilitate the learning process in such a way that inspires my students. much like a coach to an athlete, i am here to guide you on your adventure in music.
when i was still in college my main professor recommended me to teach some one on one lessons outside of school, i really enjoyed it and it stuck!
Audio Professional since 2005, Associates of Arts in music performance, countless resume credits for live performance in music and theatre, and served as adjunct faculty at (concealed information) for five years.

introduction, get to know one another, understand where the student is currently and their goals and aspirations with what they want to learn.
after intros, we will delve into topics head first with hands on, project-based, focused learning mixed with technical and theoretical lessons.
we can go song by song, or we can start with theory/technique and work our way up. i tailearns music theory in my class. its not boring! its inspiring! dont be an illiterate musician!
all ages are welcome! for kids, once they're in 5th or 6th grade, i find they are ready for an instrument. but you are never too old to learn something new. my schedule is very flexible so i can work with middle school through college students or busy professionals all the same.
find a teacher that is not only knowledgable and skilled, but a person that you respect, that you can get along with, someone that you would potentially want to hang out with outside of class. a big part of gigging in the music industry is simply being fun to hang with.
this will help to avoid the dread of homework, the reluctance to practice, and help ensure music stays a priority.
the band i was performing with recently opened for Texas Hippie Coalition at the Gas Monkey in Dallas, TX. that was a great gig and an awesome night.

where do you want to go with this instrument? what are your goals with music in general? is this a potential career path, or is it a hobby? there's no wrong answer, but you have a much better chance of accomplishing something if you have a clear goal established.
