About Daniel Henri

Music is the universal language of our dreams, and each lesson I teach is an attempt to bring out the dreamer in each of my students, if even for a moment of music making. Whether we are practicing the minor scales, singing an Italian aria, or writing a pop song, the student's connection to their inner artist is the ultimate goal.

I am a passionate professional musician, artist, producer, singer, songwriter, composer, and librettist, and have been making songs since I was a child. I have released 2 solo pop albums and am gearing up for my third record release, I play bluegrass banjo in two bands, one of which being the internationally-recognized Folk Trio The Blue Eyed Bettys, a touring act that has performed at Lincoln Center, twice opened for The Sam Bush Band, and toured the Eastern US for seven years. I am writing three Musicals, two of which have been produced at competitive Festivals in New York City. I have worked with artists as diverse as Ingrid Michaelson, Rachel Chavkin, Adam Neely, KAMAUU, and more. I hold a BFA in Acting from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, was a Kenan Fellow through Lincoln Center Education, anda am a NFAA YoungArts alum. I have been teaching music to students from ages 6 through 66 for ten years.

Critical to my teaching philosophy is the idea that students require multiple modalities of communication and expression to excel. As such, in each lesson I describe and embody the kinestetic experience of whatever it is I am teaching–be it the way a particular vocal resonator is accessed in voice lessons, or the way a ukelele fingering ought to be executed. However, I will also prepare sheet music and tablature in real time from my own software, honed to the particular student's learning preference. Additionally, I can and will provide audio recordings of myself singing or playing a particular musical exercise, that the student can then practice along to (in tempo of course) throughout the week.

Also, one of my favorite subjects to teach is songwriting and song production. Students will find their way into this passion in any number of ways, via creating beats on Logic or Ableton, or singing along to themselves on guitar. I help my students sort out their writing process on any Digital audio Workstation, and on any accompanying instrument.

I teach on a sliding scale, though when a student has no budgetary limitations typically I teach for $75/hr lesson, $100/2-hour lesson.
