About Rob

I have over 25 years of musical experience. I play piano guitar and bass guitar and have taught for over 15 years. I have been in several bands and I'm currently the front man for one right now and I am the worship leader for my church. I'm very versatile and also very flexible with scheduling.

I most enjoy watching my students as they learn and begin to understand what they play becoming more excited about their instrument. When they perform at the recitals I absolutely love to see how they are excited after they perform.

I had always wanted to become a music teacher since i was a teen. When I became an adult, one of the youth in my church had asked me to teach him to play guitar and from there I gradually added students until I could teach full time.

I have studied classical for the past 25 years as well as many other styles (rock, pop, metal, etc.). Over the years I have been in many different bands and have become very proficient in many styles. I currently am the frontman for a hard rock/metal band and am a part of the worship team for my church.

About the lesson

With a new student I like to find out if they have any previous experience with lessons or music, what their musical interests are, and what they want to do with their lessons (start a band, just for fun, etc.) Then I will start with the basics (notes, chords, rhythm, etc.) and see how they tend to learn best. I like to incorporate their favorite songs or artists into what they learn as well as traditional or classical teachings.

Over the years I have dealt with every type of student you could think of. I have found most students tend to be smart, hard working and talented when they apply themselves. I currently have several students who have special needs and have to be creative in teaching them, but they are also some of my favorites. I have younger and older, talented and those who try really hard, willing and unwilling, and everything in between for students right now. Every day is certainly a different day.

Be aware that learning an instrument is a time commitment and may take some time before you start playing songs. Knowing what style of music or who you like to listen to will help a teacher know how to teach. The main thing is music should always be something fun you do, and never feel like something you HAVE to do but WANT to do.

Our fall recital this year (2017) was so much fun. 20 of my students played in the recital, everything from Mozart to Johnny Cash to Metallica. Then for the finale, Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder was played as a group song. It was definitely a fun time and all of the students enjoyed the praise afterwards.
