About Greyson

I have a vast breadth of musical knowledge, expertise, and experience. I play over 20 instruments (teach 8). I have learned and played nearly all styles with many different folks. I have studied composition and very advanced music theory. I've had students of all ages, levels, and styles. I have worked for a professional touring band across the country as a technician, managed a music store, and recorded my own music for over a decade. I'm based in Madison, WI and teach mostly in-person and some virtual lessons.

I can and will answer all of your questions! It's my favorite thing to do :)

I began by teaching family members, then friends... later I joined the Jim's Music Teaching Center in Green Bay where I greatly expanded my teaching abilities and experiences.

I have taught lessons on Guitar, Bass, Drums, Ukulele, Trombone, and Trumpet; I am comfortable teaching in many other areas, too.

Here's a bit about my past experience that has brought me to where I am. I have studied music performance on guitar and trombone, as well as composition and theory through college. I worked as a Sales Manager at Guitar Center, which has helped me gather lots of information about music equipment and instruments, including with recording technologies. I have practiced recording for ten years now and have a studio at home. I toured as a crew member across the country with Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx. This taught me much about how performing and shows work at a very high level, as well as more about equipment.

About the lesson

I begin by getting to know them, how long they've been playing/what they've learned, their musical taste, and how music currently fits into their life. Then I usually first ask the student which topic they'd like to learn about first or if they have any questions. We also discuss their goals and then what steps I will take to bring them there.

If they are a brand new student to music, we begin with the very fundamentals of their instrument. I always get them going with something they can start practicing right away.

I often begin later lessons with answering a student's questions, too.

I have taught all ages from 5-65. I have taught beginners and those with experience. I have taught several students with special needs (cognative, blindness, etc.).
