About Mitchell
Under my instruction and mentorship, students will grow as musicians and artists. While exploring heir own initial interests, they will be introduced to a variety of different styles, techniques and approaches to music. With a mixture of structured curriculum and student-driven projects, I strive to provide a balance of necessary and interesting content in my lessons. I've been active in the music industry for 7 years and can comfortably prepare you for whatever part of it you want to get involved in, should that be an interest of yours.
I've started teaching over the past few months, mostly with family and other friends. I have taught other subjects in the past, but have found success in my recent teaching of guitar. I also mentor and work as a pseudo-music director at the Caleb Chapman Soundhouse in American Fork, UT. My experience at the Soundhouse mostly involves musicians in middle and high school, although I've had the opportunity to teach elementary school aged children there as well.
I have taken private guitar lessons from industry professionals for a total of 12 years and am a commercial music student at BYU specializing in jazz guitar.

I like to spend the first lesson getting to understand the student's musical background and aspirations, as this help me better understand what to focus on when teaching and how to tailor that to the student. The first few lessons will be spent laying down some fundamental concepts and elaborating on them as necessary. After essential groundwork is laid, the student gets to take the reins in terms of their direction and I help them excel at what they want to learn.
Mostly children and teenagers, but my guitar students have mostly been 30-50 years in age.
I would advise students to look for a teacher who can not only teach them how to play well, but understand the instrument on a deep and musical level so that the student can come away from each lesson knowing more about music and how to make it themselves.
I fondly recall the last live performance I participated in. I played guitar at a local venue for a rapper and it was a very entertaining and rewarding experience to perform underground music for an energetic crowd.

Perfect! We love Mitchell!! He is knowledgeable, talented, and so great with kids and tweens. He is such a good fit for my boys 11 and 14. They always look forward to lesson days and have progressed so much over the last year with their music. Mitchell is skilled at guitar but is also a fantastic teacher: he listens, he goes at a good pace but also pushes them, and he’s kind, and my boys think he’s so cool.
