About Griffin

For as long as I can remember rock music has been an integral part of my identity. I love feeling the music and being able to share that feeling with others through notes and chords and lyrics. I want to be able to give kids what I needed at that age. I want to be someone who can inspire and create but also teach and give back. I still have a lot to learn but I have so much to share.

I have been writing songs and performing since I was 10. I have put together a couple of bands, too. I love rock and roll but I also write sappy love songs. Doing voice is my least favorite thing to do and throughout my life I have struggled to do enough work on my voice. My voice is good and I have natural talent. I know exactly what I should be doing every day. I work with an awesome voice coach who is opera trained.

I LOVE to sit down and write songs and practice my guitar. I understand that there are naturally some activities students/musicians naturally gravitate to. I understand the lack of motivation to practice on the parts that are boring, or not too exciting. All musicians go through that. I can help students learn how to overcome that.

A friend of my mother's wanted to buy her daughter a guitar for her high school graduation because she plays the piano well and expressed interest in the guitar. And she wanted me to teach her. She was my first client. She is now a freshman at Texas A&M. Then I put an ad on my IG Story and a photo of me working with a 9 year old boy and I got a couple more inquiries.

I met my first songwriting student at the Wildflower Festival Singing Competition. I was 18 and he was 11 and we were hanging around in the back. We stayed in touch and I have let him sing a couple of songs at one of my gigs. He has a different style and enjoys beats and we recently created a really cool song. I'll be teaching his Dad how to use Logic soon so he can help his son learn to record soon.

I am primarily self taught and was born with a lot of natural talent. My style of playing the guitar is more organic because I have a good ear. That being said, I will teach a student the technical way, like any guitar teacher should from the start. I learned that way but adapted my own style.

About the lesson

I start with the student by meeting and discussing his or her goals. It's important for me to work with the student for a couple of sessions to get to know his or her personality. Does she process quickly or more slowly? What is her natural confidence level? Does my style of teaching work for her? I am a high energy person but I'm calm in a lesson and I am very encouraging. Is she a personal who learns in a techincal way, by practicing it over and over, or does she pick it up easily by listening?
