About Madison
Fueled by a love of reading from a young age, I have excelled in all areas related to research, writing, and English Literature. I want to help other students enjoy and grow in their English and writing skills and gain a newfound sense of confidence and accomplishment when it comes to the subject.
My previous teaching experience is limited to swim lessons; however, from that job I have taken away skills that apply to any method of instruction. I am confident in my ability to patiently and clearly explain both the naunces and broad concepts of English Literature and writing.
I will help students acheive their writing and English Literature goals by assiting in practing analysis, essay structures, grammar and effective sentence construction, and more. I hope to instill a new appreciation for English and confidence to apply these skills in all aspects of school and life.
In high school, I graduated with an International Baccalaureate Diploma, after a rigourous two-year course load and extensive testing. In college, I graduated with departmental honors in Comparative Literature at the University of Oregon, have a published article in the Nomad Journal. Additionally, I have recived the CALI Award for Legal Research and Writing at my law school. While I have extensive teaching experience in another field, I've always enjoyed the reward of instructing students, and have worked with children and adults of various backgrounds and learning challenges for 5 years.

Depending on whether the student wishes to work only on writing skills, English Literature, or some combination thereof, I like to start by reading a student's previous or current writing sample to get an idea of where they are starting at. From there, I will build a structured and comprehensive plan to assist the student in whatever area they need improvement, such as essay structure, themes, word choice, grammar, etc. A typical plan may include exercises to build these skills, supplemental reading, and short writing assignments.
