About Devon

I started teaching the game of golf because I was looking for a summer job that would coordinate with my then-interest of being an elementary teacher and I love golf. In my eyes, what better opportunity to gain experience in working with children and teach something that I love to children who might find that golf is their passion.

I have been recreationally golfing for 17 years. I competed for 6 years through NYSPHSAA. I was an instructor for children in grades 1-12 / an instructor for adults 18+ for Monroe-Woodbury Central School District's Summer Enrichment Program. I have been a golf coach for TGA Premier Golf that taught children from 8 years old-13 years old. I also have been a member of multiple golf summer leagues throught the 17 years I have been playing golf.

About the lesson

My typical process is to find what knowledge the student already possesses (Golf IQ, techniques they might already have, etc). Make sure there's a knowledge of the basics where they can grow and develop the skills I provide them well after our lesson is over. Depending on the age/maturity level, I have different activities that make golf fun and interesting that helps with solidifying muscle memory.

I have worked with children ages 6-16 and adults aged 18-middled aged (have children my age).

Look at what skill level you are at right now. See what qualifications the instructor has and if they have what you want in an instructor. You might have to bounce around instructors to see what you like vs what you don't like/different instructors might have different methods/activities in how they teach which could be helpful in learning new skills.

Note that an instructor who has a bunch of tools and gadgets might be more expensive, but if you have no golf knowledge you might not even use the gadgets until you become more advanced.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
·What kind of golfer they want to be (recreational golfer, league golfer, competitive golfer, pro golfer, etc) this way, the instructor will know your expectations

· does the student need golf equipment? Will the instructor provide equipment?
