About Julie
Superior instruction for flute students results in repeated success in auditions, performances, and elite groups.
I had not considered teaching until a parent approached me after hearing me perform. I immediately loved helping students learn, and over the years have built relationships with scores of students and their families whose lives have been enriched through music.
I'm a Nationally Certified Instructor of Music in Flute with 20 years' experience in education and music study. I continually research and upgrade methods for proven success.

I offer free introductory lessons. We start working with where the student is, and build upon current skills one step at the time, so the student's comfort zone is stretched in increments to include study in better tone, technique, and artistry.
I've had the pleasure and privilege of working with students from many nationalities, in all age groups, at all levels of experience (beginner through college to adult). Their level of success is as promising as their willingness to learn, experiment, and apply what they know.
Interview your prospective teacher. Take into consideration his/her enthusiasm for learning/teaching, respect for others, sensitivity to students' personality/learning style/personal goals as well as the teacher's credentials. Ask the teacher what the "game plan" is to meet the student's goals.
My proudest moments are when my students step up to a new level; like Leonie's acceptance into the Fine Arts Center as a 9th grader, or CariAnn's winning audition into the Carolina Youth Symphony.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should ask themselves why they want to pursue learning an instrument, and how dedicated they will be to practice. What are they willing to invest? Does the student want to be "well-rounded" (music is an added extra-curricular activity), or does the student want to compete with music, or make a career?

How patient she was with me and how she never skipped over teaching the basics of flute playing.
