About Alanna

Hello! My name is Alanna and I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Martin Luther College. I have experience teaching English as a second language in China. For the past two years, I have taught English online through VIPKID and tutor many students privately online.

I love to teach one on one classes online because I can focus on the student's individual needs and create a close relationship with the student. I love encouraging students to succeed and reach their goals.

I have a passion for working with students and a love for helping people reach their goals. As an adult, I have gone back to school to study Chinese. Going back to school reminded me of just how hard learning can be especially when the learning is not suited to your learning style and needs. Public education is great but some students learn quicker and other students need more time. My experiences working in various classrooms have inspired me to use my Education Degree to reach out and help individual students who want one on one attention and personalized lessons. We will learn and study at your pace according to your own goals.

I received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Martin Luther College. After college, I moved to China to teach English at an international school. My third-grade students were from many countries including; China, New Zealand, Ethiopia, and Australia. 



I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. I have public and private school training and experience in the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. I have teaching experience at an International School in China. I tutor Chinese students online for the company VIPKID. I also give one on one private online lessons to many students.

When I first begin class with a new student, I will ask what the specific needs and wants of the students are. We will also discuss in which way the student learns best. My goal is to create a class that will be uniquely tailored to the student. I will also spend time getting to know the student's likes, dislikes, and personality. It is very important to me to build a meaningful and trusting relationship with each student. 



I have worked with many different types of students. I have worked in kindergarten and first-grade classrooms in America. I have worked with third-graders from various countries in China. I have also privately taught many students aged third-grade to seventh-grade. 



There are many online tutors and teachers these days. There are so many teachers that it is hard to choose one, let alone find the one that is best for you. My advice is to search for someone who has a degree in Education. Just because the person is an expert in a certain subject does not mean they know how to teach you that subject well. I also suggest finding a teacher that is friendly and willing to be flexible. You should be able to tell the teacher what you want from the course because you are the paying customer. The teacher should adjust his teaching materials and needs to serve you best. 



Recently my husband and I were married on an island in Thailand. Our whole family flew from America to join us on our wedding day. We had the wedding ceremony and reception on the beach. It was the best day of my life and I look forward to returning to that island for future anniversary celebrations. 



A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider what their learning strengths are. How do you learn new materials best? What are your study habits? Do you find that you excel at test-taking or struggle? Think back to your favorite teacher. Why was that teacher your favorite? In what ways did he/she help you? In what areas do you want to improve? What are your goals? Do you want to ace a test or graduate with a certain GPA? If you have goals, you can share them with your teacher, and together you can work to accomplish these goals. When you meet your goals then you can create new goals. :)
