About Christie
I am an English language arts teacher who is passionate about helping students to finesse their writing skills and fall in love with words! I like to come up with interesting writing prompts and grammar games to help you learn and grow as a writer and communicator.
Lets work together to:
-Work on basic grammar skills and sentence structure.
-Figure out how to get all of the brilliant ideas in your head written down on paper (or in a Google Doc).
-Write an essay!
-Get organized.
I love helping scholars and students grow the confidence and skills that they need to produce creative, effective, and insightful writing.
Let me help you organize your ideas and train your brain to take all of your wonderful ideas and put them into words.
I have always loved collaborating with others, so teaching has been a natural fit.
I like to work with my fellow teachers, administration, and my students!!
I have a passion for reading and writing, and I like to help others discover that passion -- or at least help them discover that reading and writing aren't all that bad!
I am a middle school teacher! I have experience teaching ELA and Social Studies to 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
I also have experience tutoring in reading, writing and grammar.
I have a Bachelor's degree in English Literature and Global Communications from Roger Williams University, and a Master's degree in English Language Arts Education from Lesley University.

First I like to ask a new student what their favorite subjects in school are, and what they feels like their greatest strenths are. I would also ask them where they feel that they need the most help, or what they have concerns with academically.
I have worked with a very diverse range of students.
I have worked in a Catholic School where I helped prepare students to apply for presigious private high schools. At the Catholic school I also taught modified lessons to students with different needs because they did not recieve special education services through school.
I have worked in public middle schools alongside reading coaches, literacy coaches, and special educators to help every student in class get exacly what they need.
I have worked privately with high school students to help them prepare for college applications or just to catch up to grade level, and I have worked privately with middle school students to help them prepare for high school. This has included a range of students; from high achieving students to students with learning disabilities, or students who need help catching up to their grade level.
Find a teacher who will listen to you; especially when learning about writing. You want to find someone who will give your strategies to help communicate your unique ideas in the BEST way possible -- not somone who tries to put your writing style in a box.
I had 7th grade students write a five paragraph compare and contrast essay where they focused on a celebrity that they admired, and a person in their life who they admire. We learned some really interesting things along the way about the qualities that we value in role models, and some super surprising connections were made! All while we perfected the art of writing a five paragraph essay.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What kinds of assignments will you give me?
Will you listen to my point of view?
Can you share examples of writing with me?
Can you tell me about how you will help me get better?

I am very open to negoting a rate. I would be able set up a group rate if a couple of folks want to join up for a tutoring session, or we can work out a discount if you are looking to meet for more than 1 hour per week.
In the past I have charged $50.00 per hour over Zoom or to travel to the Somerville Public Library to meet. I have charged $75.00 per hour for me to travel to a location preferred by you.
