About Chris
As a passionate learner with an interdisciplinary background, I wish to convey the wonder and joy of learning. I graduated from Hillsdale College with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Music minor. I have four years of tutoring experience, most recently as a trumpet instructor. My rigorous liberal arts education provided me with wide ranging academic experiences where I honed my writing skills in addition to my major and minor. I believe that we all have the potential to become our own best teachers. With this mission, I apply strategies inspired by the work of Dr. Barbara Oakley to help students "learn how to learn" in addition to mastering the material at hand.
Schools today often do not teach techniques to make studying more efficient. Instead, they leave it to the student to figure out how to maximize their cognitive resources. This is where I love to help. Many students are surprised when they experience a less frustrating way to learn when they begin to eschew old habits. It is an absolute joy to see students improve confidence and gain a sense of control over their academic lives.
