About Janet
I love teaching the skills of close reading, the structures beneath various genres of text, the craft moves that authors use to create their literary worlds. I can help students be active, engaged readers and learn how to write about what they read.
20year+ teacher at competitive high schools
NY State certified English language arts and Special Education grades 7-12
Three years teaching college English
I have a Master's degree iand NY State n Teaching secondary English and further NY State certification in teaching special education.
I taught for twenty years in public and private education.
Created individual curriculum for many students.
Can support in a number of high school and middle school subjects.
Substantial experience teaching college writing.

I typically travel to student's homes. Through discussions and some questionnaires, we work together to identify student's interests, strengths and weaknesses, feelings about about school, favorite books nd pastimes, level of general knowledge. I establish warm, working relationships with students and families.

Details
My fee for individual tutoring, with me traveling to students' homes or working on Zoom if they prefer is $150 per hour. This includes the ability for students to contact me with questions and ask me to review work online in between sessions.
