About Arlene
I am a well educated woman with three college degrees; two in the medical field and one in business.
I graduated from Plaza Business College majoring in business English and communication as well as honors in business law. I have tutored three people from South America who could not speak a word of English and I'm so proud of them now, they are doing great. I also tutored children from grades 1-6 and was a fill in as a teacher's assistant. I did some in home tutoring for students who needed assistance with homework in order to pass her classes.
I always had a great passion for helping others achieve their goals; to strongly encourage and stress the major importance of a good education. My teaching centers around English, reading/comprehension, grammar, writing, sentence structure and proper vocabulary. I also teach the proper ediquette when going on a job interview.
This was always in me from a small child. Even at that point, I was always helping people both young and adults where ever they needed assistance. It comes natural with me even today. I get a great fulfillment and satisfaction knowing I made a difference in someone's life.
I graduated with an honor certificate in business English and communication as well as other subjects included in the course. I graduated high school with a secretarial degree and took two years of study in psychology and human behavior.

First and foremost, make the student feel comfortable and at ease in your presence. Tell them a little summary about yourself and encourage them to also tell you about them. The key is to get to know each other and both the student and tutor now feel confident with each other.
I have worked with both young children and adults. I worked with students from South America. These students all required help with basically English and their reading comprehension. The younger children mostly needed reading and writing assistance and help preparing for tests.
I would tell them to have confidence and faith in me. We take one step at a time, and I have been doing tutoring a long time with outstanding results. I am a go getter and a very challenging person who keeps at something no matter how long it may take until I accomplish my goals with my students and I definitely see progress. I always excelled in English and reading; to this day I still do a large amount of reading mainly psychology books, I never cease to stop learning.
Well, I don't know if you would call this an event but, I'm exceedingly thrilled that the teachers and school system are making adjustments to better improve and encourage students to do better and put more effort into their studies and tests. I am very happy to hear that hopefully, we will have colleges with free tuition for those who are low income so they can benefit from a good education as well, and also, more students will be attending colleges.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
First of all, really sit down and think where your weaknesses are, where do you feel you need extra help and then feel confident about your decision to pick subjects of need.
Make sure you are able to follow up on every class session and to definitely attend each class. Most important, make sure that your motivation and determination is strong enough to continue with each lesson.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
I could not speak any English at all. Arlene worked with me approx. a year and a half. We even used a tape recorder which I used when she was not with me. It helped me to study and listen. The next time she would come to me, she would test me to see if I listened and studied the tape she made. She was very determined for me to learn this English so I could get a job. Today, I may have an accent because I'm from Colombia but my English is perfect and I understand everything people say to me and I can now answer them without being ashamed.
