About Bayleigh

I went into the field of education and special education in the hopes to be a positive change in the education system. I saw a need for educators and I felt called to be the one who uses growth mindsets, differentiation and engagement strategies in the classroom. I have one more class to go before completing my teaching license.

I recently graduated from GCU with my B.S in both Elementary and Special Education. I student taught at Tri City Christian and Nichols Elementary Schools in both general and special education settings. I have over 200+ hours of practicum/observation hours in both the Southern California area and Phoenix, Arizona. I am also CPR/First Aid certified and am employed through VUSD currently.

As a recent GCU graduate I strive for learning my students' strengths and weaknesses, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. I personally would give a pre-assessment to get a starting point for what the student knows already. I would like to also know how a student learns best, which will help me as an educator/tutor to work directly in a way which is tailored in a unique way to your child.

I have worked with students K-8th in the general education setting, however also with students 1st-8th in the special education or self-contained and resource classroom settings. As an educator I have had the opportunity to work with a wide variety and diversity of students who have been covered under the categories of IDEA.

If I were to give my students advice about a teacher I would say look for an educator who is going to challenge you in a healthy way. What I mean by that is someone who will work alongside you, go the extra mile, is able to break down a skill into bits and pieces or break it down in an entirely new way, because the other one did not work. I would also say hire someone who is energetic, passionate and will give 100% every time to help you succeed. Lastly having a growth mindset and using engagement strategies as an educator is a huge advantage and will make students feel better equipped for the future.

A recent event I am fond of was my student teaching at Nichols Elementary. I was in my last evaluation before graduation and I was challenged with Co-Teaching with the general education 1st grade teacher. The event of being able to work side by side to bring all of the kids together and teach a lesson while supporting the kids under my program was such an eye-opening experience. The lesson was truly one that I can be proud of, because we incorporated many different learning modalities and geared our lesson in a way which was student centered and not teacher directed. The kids were challenged to use Growth Mindsets and throughout the semester I saw tremendous growth in all of them.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
If I could give you advice it would be to think about your own strengths/weaknesses, how you like to be motivated, what ways you like to learn and what is your end goal you are trying to achieve. If not then come up with a plan stating how you want to achieve this goal and then the educator or tutor can come up beside you and help find tangible, realistic ways to help you accomplish your goals!
