My typical process of working with a student is to assess the student in their current grade level as soon as possible. I work with the student during that assessment so that I can get an idea of the areas he/she is strong or weak in. Then, I follow up the assessment with assignments that address the weaknesses more than the strengths (at first). Then, I find the best way to bring it all together at a pace that is comfortable to the student.
