About Chloe

I am a Junior in college studying K-12 Education! I have a passion for kids and teaching. I have been working with kids for about 6 years at varied places such as The Nehemiah Center of Houston, Breakthrough Central Texas, Montessori Heritage, to name a few. I am working towards becoming an English/Language Arts teacher for elementary kids. I enjoy working one-on-one with students to provide them with specific and detailed help. I had many tutors growing up and they helped get me far in school! I would love to be a teacher/mentor/motivator for kids who may be struggling with certain subjects or that just need an extra push in a certain area. I'm flexible, patient and still in school, so I can reflect on the ways my teachers work with me one-on-one and emulate that with my own students!

I love reading, writing and grammar. They've always been my strongest subjects in school. It took me a while to figure out that this is what I want to study and pursue as a career, but I discovered that I'm very good at it! On top of that I love teaching others and seeing that a little help can get them a long way. The more kids write, the stronger readers they will become. The more they read, the stronger writers they will become. It's so important to keep on reading and writing, even if it's difficult, because with reading comes understanding, and with understanding comes knowledge!

6+ years of childcare, volunteer experiences, 2 years of educational studies, 3 months working as a teacher in a Montessori school.

About the lesson

I think it's important to get to know the student a little bit first and allow them to become comfortable with sharing time and talking with me. (I was very shy as a child and it always took me a while to get comfortable with a new tutor, so I want to make it as easy as possible for them to learn with someone new.)

After an introduction and a little chatting I would ask them about their relationship with English/reading/writing and how comfortable they are with certain topics. I would also investigate what reading/writing level they are at by asking what they are/were learing about in school and possibly asking them to read a passage or write a short paragraph. The things that are a bit unfamiliar to them I would work with them on, letting them try new techniques and helping them along the way.
