About Kathleen
After several years of working in a preschool, I am taking a step back to provide individual, quality childcare to the young minds of Nantucket. From babysitting to tutoring, I hope to instil an appreciation for education among the children I interact with. As the famous educator John Dewey said, "Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself".
In addition to having a preschool certification from the state of Massachusetts, I have one semester left to complete my degree of Early Childhood Education.
Aside from having over five years of classroom experience, I was also recently inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. Kappa Delta Pi is the national honors society reserved for the top twenty percent entering the field of education. This recognition of my efforts as a student effortlessly translates over to my passion for education; as a teacher, I know I will never stop learning. I chose this field as I came to the realization that children are so often underestimated in their ability to understand concepts and certain social-emotional skills. I feel confident in my ability to create a classroom environment in which all students feel respected, regardless of ability or background. I aim in teaching my students the importance of not comparing themselves to the success of others, but rather feel pride in their own accomplishments, however humble.

Before the educational process begins, my students need to feel safe and respected. The first visit will be spent understanding the child's personal anxieties about the given subject. How a student views themselves is a key proponent in quality one-on-one tutoring.
