About Alexandra

I am a certified K-8 teacher with six years of teaching experience. I have a degree in Elementary Teacher Education from the University of Delaware, where I was the president of the Education Honors Society, KDP) and am licensed to teach K-8 in the state of Delaware. I am currently in graduate school, studying for a Masters degree in Education. I also have a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certification from ITTT.

Reading/Phonics - I have taught reading skills, as well as phonics, to students from 3 to 12 years old. I have experience teaching phonics and reading to students of various English levels, including native speakers. I specialize in helping students with reading and pronouncing words correctly and fluidly.

Writing/Proofreading/Grammar - I have taught writing, including grammar and mechanics skills and proofreading, to students at the middle school and high school level online for five years. I can help students to proofread their own work, as well as practice the grammar and mechanics skills needed to avoid errors in the future. I am also experienced in providing feedback, guidelines, and suggestions for paragraph and essay writing at the middle school and high school level.

ESL - I have taught English as a Second Language and ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) for five years, both overseas and online. I am experienced in teaching English to young learners as well as elementary (primary) aged students. I am able to teach all levels of English speakers, from complete beginners to advanced students.

I have a B.S. in Elementary Teacher Education from the University of Delaware and am a licensed elementary and middle school teacher in the state of Delaware. I also have a certification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from ITTT. Additionally, I am currently in graduate school, studying for a Masters of Education.

About the lesson

First, I assess the level of the student in various sub-areas. Then, together with the student or student's parents, I create a set of goals to work towards. Next, I conduct session containing instructions, examples, practice exercises, questions and answers, and more. I also assign tasks and activities for students to work on between sessions. At the end of each session, I review what has been learned, what the student did particularly well with, and what they should keep diligently working on.

I have worked with students of all ages, from young children all the way to adults, from more than 15 different countries. I have worked with students of various reading and writing abilities. I have worked with student who do not speak a single word of English to students who speak nearly fluently and want to expand their skills.
