About Victoria

I have been teaching English Language Arts for 14 years in Bloomfield. I have extensive tutoring experince, including K-5 general subjects, essay writing,reading comprehension,and SAT prep.

I am passionate about reading engagement,and work with students to increase their love of reading and reading stamina. I also have effective writing lesson for even the most reluctant writer.

I worked in film production for 20 years in New York, then realized I wanted to go back to teaching, which was my original goal.

I have worked as an ELA teacher for 14 years at Bloomfield Middle School.

I am a home-intruction tutor for students who were not able to come to school, both long and short term.

I worked at Sylvan Tutroing in Verona for 2 years (before they closed)

I participate in the after-school tutoring program 2-3 days a week.

I co-authored our curriculum to align with New Jersey Student Learning Standards (replaced Common Core Standards)

About the lesson

Depending on the ages, and their goals, I start with a reading inventory to get a sense of what kind of reading they enjoy, so I can capiatlize on their interests. I also do written response to a simple prompt to see the status of their writing skills.

I teach both general education and special education classes, so I am very aware of the modifications and accomodations that help students to be and feel successful.

I have taught a highly diverse population, and work continually to provide a culturally responsive classroom.

I have also taught 8th grade honors and am the advisor for the National Junior Honor Society.
