About Alex

I believe in the power of learning from someone who loves what they teach and, in the subject of English, I fit that bill. I graduated high school with an International Baccalaureate Diploma and currently attend an academically rigorous liberal arts college in California, so I know what it means to do well in--and love--school. I received the highest possible scores on my AP English Literature and Composition and IB Higher Level English Language and Literature exams. I have composed research projects and subsequent research essays in the subjects of metaphor, mental illness portrayal in literature, setting, and detective fiction. I composed a successful first-year writing portfolio at my college and was recently asked to take on a position as a college Writing Advisor. In short, I live for all things English and would be thrilled to help you navigate my favorite subject. I hope to hear from you soon!

Nearly ten years ago, I began tutoring my family members with special needs in various subjects including reading, writing, math, and general organizational skills. I fell in love with helping someone enjoy learning and take strides toward a successful future, no matter what success means for them.

About the lesson

I've worked with students from a variety of educational backgrounds, including those in special needs, standard, higher level/honors, AP/IB, and college classes.

Make sure your teacher loves what they teach! The very best teachers I've ever had have been that way.

Recently, I had the opportunity to play an editorial role in my college's archives exhibit entitled "A Gallery of Famous Fictional Sleuths" surrounding detective fiction and its protagonists.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What am I looking to learn?

Do I want to improve an assignment, a grade, or a skill?

What can I bring to these sessions to be the best student I can be?

Alex was extremely helpful with my final paper. Her guidance on choosing a topic and organizing my ideas into an outline made my writing process very smooth. I really appreciated Alex's eye for detail during revisions and advice on developing my argument. Because of Alex's help, my final paper was the strongest assignment of the semester!
