About Ken

Hello, my name is Ken, but my students call me El Profe. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to help you improve your English skills. I will help you learn better and faster, the English you want and need to know. With over 25 years of experience I have helped almost 1000 students, from many different cultures and language backgrounds. I have taught at University level at Miami Dade College, Florida International University, the English School, and others even in other countries, in person and on-line. As an adult, I had to learn another language, so I know exactly the challenges and difficulties. With me you will improve writing, speaking, understanding, and your vocabulary in a very pleasant but effective modern manner. I am confident that my experience will help your each your language goals.

My teaching resulted from originally helping clients in the different countries in which I was living; that help became a full time occupation to better do business for our mutual benefit. Teaching became a big part of my regular life.

My first Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish was from Western Michigan University. My second Bachelor 's degree is in Foreign Trade (International Business.) I have lived in 10 countries with different languages as their base, so I am very aware and sensitive to other cultures and habits. As I too have learned a second language, I am aware of the challenges and difficulties involved. Over 25 years of experience has prepared me very well; I have a high degree of student retention. I have earned several awards and professional certificates.

About the lesson

With a new student, I first do a free evaluation to determine the students current level and reasons for wanting to know English. With that information I then formulate a program to fit the students needs and availability so that we both work together in a beneficial fashion.

I have worked with adult students from many professional backgrounds and languages. My life experience of living in and working in other countries makes me more able to relate to my students.

First, learn what the teacher has done and what experience the teacher has that can help you. There should be relevance and rapport in order to build mutual understanding. There needs to be a comfortable learning atmosphere; if not, it won't work.

A few months ago a former student told me that she was able to pass a difficult exam which enabled her to get a promotion that she had been wanting for a long time. This gave me a lot of satisfaction, to see that my efforts in helping her had made a positive change in her life.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The student needs to identify the difference between need and want. If the need is for a specific industry, be clear. If the "want" is strictly social, that is OK too, but be clear about it. In any case, the teacher can then tailor his lessons to be most effective.
