About Maya

Dear Parents and Students,

The ability to write and convey thoughts, ideas, emotions, and concepts through words is arguably one of the most important skills your student can develop. In both the academic and professional worlds, writing will be one of the first, if not only, impressions others will have to gauge who your student is and understand what she or he is attempting to convey via admission essays, personal statements, cover letters, email correspondences, etc.

Your student has profound thoughts but may have difficulties expressing them in writing. Let me help. Whether the difficulty is rooted in structure, grammar, analysis, fear, or writer’s block, we will work through it together. Thank you for your consideration.

About the lesson

I like to start with an over the phone consultation with the parent, student, or professional to discuss the areas s/he would like assistance. From there, if it is determined I am a suitable tutor to aid in the designated areas, I would like copies of previous work started or completed by the student or professional before we meet up for the first time. This will give me an opportunity to assess areas of strengeths and where more guidance might be needed, so I can prepare for our first lesson/meet up.

I have worked with an array of students in various areas of English and Writing. I have worked with elementary students trying to learn sentence structure; law students needing assist with analysis and IRAAC for memorandums and briefs; high school juniors and seniors drafting the always nerve-wracking personal statement for college admissions; and business professionals wanting another set of eyes to edit and/or proofread documents.
