About KATI

Learning is hard. Sometimes all students need is a boost in confidence and reassurance that they can succeed. I take pride in developing relationships with my students so that I may help them in the best way possible.

I have been a teacher for the past 11 years. I have and ELA certification in grades 5-12 as well as a students with disabilities certification, ELA in grades 7-12. I have taught middle school English, high school English, and special education (grades 3, and 5-12). I understand how to break tasks down into their most basic skills and teach from there. I don't just asssist with the work, I build skills which lead to independence.

I have a BS in ELA/secondary education from SUNY Geneseo and a Masters of Science in Students with a Disabilities from Binghamton University.

About the lesson

I first try to understand who they are as a learner by asking questions and listening. During this time I am learning their interests, preferences, strengths, and deficits. From there I build an approach that will strengthen skill as well as build new skills.
