About Isabeau

I work diligently to help the students I tutor feel empowered. Guidance is provided by taking into account each student's unique learning style and perspective. My goal is to never give up on a student: each student is capable and intelligent, it is my job to ask the right questions and give the best examples to lead them to discover this for themselves.

My teaching experience has been built into my past work through various outlets: from babysitting in high school when the children needed help with homework, to being a teacher's aid before college, followed by the numerous years spent aiding the public with any literature or writing-related topic through my position at the library.

Qualifications include a bachelor's Degree in Communication from Berea College (w/ a Business Minor).

Work experience as a teacher's aid, a librarian and a childcare employee have both added to my understanding of education and tutoring. My time as a 3rd-grade teacher's aid solidified my love of helping students reach their goals. Within the library system, I was often called on to help patrons with resources for papers and my knowledge of literature was greatly expanded. My time with children has primarily been in either a classroom or educational daycare setting where lesson plans were made and teaching (in some shape or form) was incorporated into every day.

My understanding of early child development also gives my tutoring a unique edge as I am skilled in simplification of concepts and emotional management when topics build frustration.

About the lesson

Asking questions of the student to gauge their learning style and areas of struggle would be the beginning step (also while adding some fun conversation to help the student feel relaxed). This would be followed by asking more specific questions about the content we're reviewing and expectations of the classes they're taking. With this foundational information, I would be able to conduct a thorough session utilizing the student's strengths to explain and guild them to complete their required studies.

My primary experience has been with children under the age of 10 and adults over the age of 18.

I have worked with particularly intelligent students who needed guidance to focus on one task rather than the dozens running through their head, students who find that they struggle with keeping up or grasping concepts due to differing methods of processing information, and students who struggle with their attention span.

My current rates are $40 per hour with a student.

That said, due to my minimal experience in tutoring, I will consider negotiating that rate.
