About Otishna

I am a college professor with more than 10 years experience teaching online as well as in a brick and mortar classroom. I'm different because I truly enjoy interaction with my students.

I also speak Spanish.

I love when students have a "light bulb moment", meaning they finally understand a difficult concept or master a challenging pronunciation.

I began tutoring in high school by teaching English to my Spanish speaking neighbor from Costa Rica. I went on to obtain a Bachelor's and a Master's degree and began teaching on the university level.

I'm a college professor. A Biologist by training who also minored in Chemistry. I possess both a Bachelor's and Master's degree.

I'm also TESOL certified with years of experience teaching English to all age groups. I specialize in IELTS prep, and Business English, and overall conversatioinal skills.

About the lesson

My typical process is to talk to the student to find out their goals and to assess where they are. From that point I am able to make a plan to help them achieve their goals.

I've worked with students of all ages, beginning with elementary school right up to university. I've also worked with business professionals and those who just need general improvement.

Talk openly with the instructor that you are interested. Let them know your concerns and go with the one that you feel comfortable with.

I love travel, experiencing different cultures, eating out. All of which I have done recently.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should consider what their goals are. They should consider whether they want to be fluent in English, better and general conversation or whether they are just trying to pass a science class. The better they are able to articulate what they went the better an instructor is able to help them.
