About Laura
I am 25 and recently relocated to the Houston area. With experience as a newspaper editor in San Marcos, as well as a proofreader and writer for various businesses journals in the Pacific Northwest, I would love to work with students to improve their writing, reading and spelling skills. I have won awards from the associated press and have experience training high school interns and nannying. I am open to all age groups.
I've been involved in tutoring since college. I love writing and grammar, naturally — it found me.
I have a BA in journalism and 5 years in the industry. I am an experienced editor and love the writing process.

I begin with establishing where the student is currently — regarding skills, strengths and weaknesses. Then, I build up the student's confidence by playing off of their strengths while finding opportunities to address their weaknesses. I am a very empathetic and understanding person, and have experience with behavioral disorders. I understand that there can be barriers to learning that need to be removed to maximize retention.
I have worked with mostly college and high school-aged students, but I was a nanny for three grade school-aged children and can work with all ages. I have a good understanding of students who get frustrated easily and can work with them to get focused.
