About Alecia

I focus on quality. I aim for any person who needs help with their English assignments to receive the best tutoring. I spend and dedicate time to helping students achieve the best learning experience. From high school to college, I have helped several students in all types of English and Writing classes: English 101, Scholarship Essays, Scientific Research papers, and Graduate Honors Theses.

I even received a certificate for being a tutor and overachieving in helping students at Northeastern Illinois University. Also, I received a nomination for an award for one of my novels I wrote at the Skyway Writing Competition. I even worked with an condominium residence in editing the grammar for contracts, flyers, policies, and homeowners handbook.

Not only do I help students with their English and Writing assignments, but I give tools and resources to help improve their writing. It's important to me that each person, young or old, is given a chance to improve their writing and overall understanding of the English language. It's a learning experience we experience together.

I always helped students with their English assignments that transferred to tutoring in college. It's been a privilege to help students and watch their progress grow. Each student I tutored enjoyed my services, and I always enjoy helping, so teaching students happened gradually over time.

I was a certified English tutor for a semester at Northeastern Illinois University. I do mostly freelance tutoring and help students with assignments given my availability and time.

About the lesson

Greet them, learn what he or she needs help with, make goals to complete the assignment, and seek the best way the student learns. In the end, I follow up with any questions he or she has for me and ask if he or she would like to schedule another meeting time. I keep it mainly student-based learning and try not to overpower the lesson unless they need thorough help and understanding of the subject.

All types of students (sports players, honors, graduates, students with disabilities, students between the ages of 16-55, all races/ethnicities and genders) with any kind of English or Writing assignments from English 101, Grammar workbook assignments, Research papers, Honors theses, Scholarship essays, Reflective essays, etc.

Find someone willing to go the extra mile to help you understand your English or Writing assignments. There shouldn't be a limit to learning and finding someone who cares, whether or not you understand the concept of whatever you're trying to learn, is important. Also, finding someone with experience in helping other students is assuring because it can help you feel comfortable that they understand your level of learning and looking out for your best interest. No one is perfect at teaching but its the effort, level of understanding/experience and caring that does count.

During my time as a tutor at Northeastern Illinois University, a graduate student needed help with her essay for an honors class. Her assigned tutor didn't show, so I gladly offered my services. She struggled with the introductory paragraph and needed a good base to start, so we spent time, until closing at the library, going over the basics of what the introduction paragraph is, how to summarize her main points, and breaking down what should be in the thesis. The next day, she came back to the library for a tutoring session and made another appointment with me for the morning. My tutoring helped her a lot, and it came as a surprise when she gave me a box of chocolate strawberries as a thank you for the extra time we spent going over her paper! I enjoyed that specific time, which happened in April of 2019.

Details

I prefer the salary range: $15 to $25 an hour based on the level of professional experience that will increase over time. But if there are financial hindrances for the student, the price can be negotiated.
