About Kathryn

As a tutor, I work with children in the elementary grades to improve academic success across all subjects. I believe that reading for comprehension is an essential skill in the study of English language arts, science, history, and even mathematics. Literacy is truly the foundation upon which all other learning is built. My goal is to meet your reader where they are and help them become active, engaged, cognitive readers, and thereby develop their academic skills across subjects. I am currently offering all services remotely.

After earning my B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College, I am now completing my M.Ed in Learning and Instructional Design at Northeastern University. I am licensed to teach students in the primary grades with and without moderate disabilities. I am also a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist, and certified to provide teletherapy for dyslexic students of all ages. Consultations are always free, and I look forward to hearing about how I may be of service to your family.

I am a licensed Massachusetts school teacher, as well as a certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist trained in the Orton-Gillingham method for improving literacy in students. I am currently finishing my Master's program at Northeastern University in learning and instructional design.

About the lesson

I work with students in grades K-6, so the intake process varies from student to student. I offer an initial consultation for free, typically a 20-30 minute phone call or Zoom conference so that I can fully understand your child's needs. Once we move forward, I use multiple assessment tools over the first few sessions to guide my lesson planning. Because I assist students with anything from phonetic instruction to more advanced reading comprehension techniques, the assessment tools and teaching plans vary.
