About Jordan
As an English tutor and second-year English major at UC Davis, I specialize in essay writing, reading comprehension, and grammar. I am a bright and attentive instructor who is most focused on sparking a student's engagement with the material! I guide students through the subject matter step-by-step, where they are encouraged to ask questions, and teach essential writing and comprehension techniques as the basis for every lesson. The typical length of a lesson varies based on student's need, but typically ranges from 30 minutes to 1 hour. I have tutored high-school level students for two years, where they have seen a significant improvement in writing level, and have also had experience in elementary schools as a classroom assistant. I am open to tutor students at every grade level (K-12) and will adjust my teaching methods to cater to each student's individual need!
I began tutoring privately in high school when my peers would come to me after school for help in their English classes. This evolved into a small business which continued through my last years in high school, moved online during the pandemic, and endured through my years in college.

I first ask students about their experience with English and writing, then try to assess their writing level through working through a current assignment. It's always important to ask a student questions to better understand them and to create a positive, uplifting environment where they feel comfortable enough to ask questions and engage with material.
I have worked mostly with high school-level students, but have also had experience teaching elementary and middle school students as a classroom assistant, where I was often asked for help on spelling, grammar, and writing assignments.
