About McKenna

McKenna is an experienced classroom teacher and reading interventionist specializing in elementary (PreK-4) reading and writing and middle school (5-8) English, social studies/history, and writing.

She helps students of all types reach their goals through individualized instruction, targeted remediation, creative enrichment exercises, and engaging learning activities.

I love watching a student's hard work and persistence translate into soaring ability!

6-8th grade Social Studies and Reading teacher, KIPP New Orleans Schools (2 years experience)

K-3rd reading intervention specialist, Dallas ISD schools (1 year experience)

K-5th conflict resolution instructor, NYC Public Schools (4 years experience)

About the lesson

I begin by ascertaining the goals of the parent and student, which will inform the course of the tutoring program. I will then give a diagnostic to assess the needs of the student. At that point, I create an individualized instruction plan tailored to the student's needs.

I have worked with students ages 4-14 in both a traditional classroom setting and in one-on-one intervention. I serve general education students (looking for either remediation or enrichment) and special education students. For special education students, I have experience tailoring academic offerings to IEP and 504 Plan requirements.
