About CHAR
Twenty years in the business of tutoring for Orange High School, Solon High School, Chagrin Falls, Beachwood and local private schools, I offer private lessons covering English and American Literature, Composition, Literary Analysis, Shakespeare, Complete Grammar, Academic essays, and College Essays for CP, Honors, and AP students.
I also offer prep for the English sections of the ACT and SAT test, which includes methods for reading comprehension, tips for recognizing which information will appear in the questions, complete coverage of all grammar required by the test, and strategies and templates for writing the analytical essays.
My most popular prep is the "boot-camp" version of the Complete Grammar of the English language, and since there are 74 grammar questions on the test, students scores increase exponentially after they have become proficient in grammar. For each grammar rule taught, I provide sample questions taken from actual tests.
I also specialize in Reading Comprehension and Essay Writing. When teaching the reading passages, I show students how to underline key concepts and recognize points that the test is likely to include in its questions.
For the essay, I provide templates and helpful sentence constructs that apply to all the essays, then teach students to analyze all the main points of each passage and demonstrate the rhetorical strategies that the writer of the passage has implemented.
I have a PhD in Literature and Composition from Case Western University and I love tutoring. I usually end up tutoring all the siblings, cousins and friends of my students and get to know them on a personal level.
