About Cecilia

Dedicated and certified foreign language teacher with 4 years of experience instructing students of different ages and backgrounds individually and in groups. Patient and attentive teaching style emphasizing individual student skills and educational needs. Committed to continued learning and self-improvement.

I am very passionate about teaching and helping others reach their language-learning goals. Every class and conversation provides an enriching experience not only for my students but also for myself.

I started teaching Bible courses when I was 11 years old. I studied and implemented different teaching methods with my students. When I turned 17 I began teaching spanish-speakers English. Since then, I have learned to speak and teach French and have had the priviledge of teaching English, French and Spanish to foreigners.

I completed a 120 hour TESOL certification course.

About the lesson

The first meeting is always to determine the student's level, needs, and interests. This enables me to completely personalize their lessons to ensure they are engaging and effective.

I have worked with both children and adults of different backgrounds and ethnicities. I am currently teaching a child with autism French.

I always encourage my students to study the basics of the language, such as essential grammar and vocabulary on their own. I provide resources that can help them to accomplish this. This way, when we get together, they have a native speaker who can give them positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to enable them speak with confidence in real-life situations.

One of my students is a young boy with autism. He is very energetic and smart. We read a story in French for the first time last week and he understood everything and even told me a story it reminded him of. After class, his mother told me that he never talks in school but he is so chatty when he's with me because I make him feel comfortable and he enjoys his time with me very much. It is moments like these that encourage me to continue learning and teaching.

Details

If the student is interested in my teaching him grammar, vocabulary, writing etc. I charge 15 USD/hr. However, if they are already dedicating time to learn these basics of the language on their own, I charge $10 to have conversational practice with them. I provide positive reinforcement and contructive feedback to better their speaking skills.
