About Veronica

Hello! My name is Veronica, and I'm excited to get started with you. I have tutoring & teaching experience in various fields. As a tutor, I have past experience as a basic Homework Helper, and currently as an ESL tutor with a TESOL certification through TESOL International Association. However, what excites me most is helping students improve their writing abilities--unlocking their voice, individuality, and creativity. As a writer, I have been published in Dance Magazine and across various blogs, as well as shorter form social media platforms. My overall experience with children and youth stems from years as a dance teacher, dedicating myself to youth development through the arts.

The most rewarding part of tutoring is watching students progress and gain confidence in their abilities, whether that be in writing, reading, or simply telling a story with passion and excitement. My goal is to equip students with tools applicable not only to schoolwork but also outside the classroom where it matters most.

My first experience working with children and youth was through dance and babysitting as a teenager. After high school, I found myself as a college student peer-editing my friends' essays, while also teaching dance to toddlers and children. Once I moved to New York, I became a babysitter, started tutoring professionally, and continued teaching dance. Engaging with youth & children has been integrated into every aspect of my career.

About the lesson

With new students, I ask that they come in with an assignment they're currently working on. We'll talk about their goals not only for the particular assignment, but overall for their writing, grammar, or reading skills.

With English & Writing specifically, I have worked with students ranging in age from middle school to high school. Typically I assist students with essays & proofreading, but can also help with grammar and reading.

Make sure you and your tutor/teacher are a good fit. If you two don't connect in any way beyond the work, it will be difficult to *want* to improve.
