I am the founder and head tutor at 911 Tutor Rescue. I started the company while employed at a local university teaching writing and literature. Many of the students who had gone to public schools in NYC failed 1st Year Composition. These students were extremely articulate and enjoyed a hardy debate about topics that concerned them. But, when it came time to write these thoughts down in the form of an essay or composed article, the basics were absent. There was no understanding of sentence composition basics including syntax and morphology (including inflections), phonology or semantics. I love the art of communication and vowed I would find the time to teach the young English Language Arts. It is important to be able to share and even persuade others with your own thoughts not only verbally, but on paper.

At the start, 911 Tutor Rescue focused on building vocabularies, expanding comprehension of written words, and understanding the importance and value of one's thinking. But many of my clients wanted and needed help breaking down the formulas in math problems and had fallen victim to the some can do math others cannot syndrome. I added tutors who were expert at making the difficult seem easy. We now have associates who can help with any topic with which one has trouble.

I value people and each one brings some specific specialty to the world. Only they can demonstrate what that specialty is. Teaching them how to do so is my specialty.

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan eons ago and have since taught in public and private Pre-k to 12th grade schools (where I was responsible for creating curriculums that integrate the arts to teach writing, been an adjunct professor, and distinguished visiting artist at colleges and universities including Harvard, Amherst, and Princeton. My writing has been published and produced on stage, film, and television.

All our tutors have bachelor’s degrees from accredited colleges; some are licensed and certified by the Depart of Education in New York. We believe, and our experience has proven, it is not the number of degrees that makes one a master's teacher, but their ability to relate to the student and make easy to learn topics with which they once had trouble. We seek out and hire the teacher/tutor with the highest success rates in helping a student become a high achiever.

About the lesson

At 911 Tutor Rescue we like to get to know our students; what their interests are, and what they are excited to communicate. Experience has taught us connecting relatable topics to subjects with which they struggle-- be it math, science, or reading comprehension--helps them understand and retain the lesson.

When teaching math, we have used digital resources available online such as the ancient Babylonian tool Abacus, and the Nubian, African game Mancala. To expand vocabularies and aid in comprehension, we teach root word meanings and supply games, and puzzles to exercise the new knowledge.

911 Tutor Rescue tutors have found using the internet to reinforce new information with images, and short stories that demonstrate how that word is used internationally helps the mind retain and categorize the data.

In history, we use reenactments, and in science experiments. In short, 911 Tutor Rescue makes learning fun and something to which the student looks forward

Corvid-19 has caused us to go virtual and so our online price is quite amenable to most budgets. We charge $19.99 per hour which can be paid per class. We also offer discounted bundles of 10 -30 hourly sessions that must be paid in full at the start. If it is required, we meet the client in person, at their chosen location, or they come to us, depending on the subject, the price per hour is $35-$50

All lessons require a refundable deposit.
