For elementary students and younger, I may start with an ice-breaker to ease up tension and level with the student. I like to be kind and transparent with how I support their academic growth.
Being patient and being a good listener are two necessary skills for all tutors. We are here to support their learning. Learning can not take place unless the student is being respected. My job as a tutor is to help the student feel confident, teach them how to learn and think.
