About Gabriela
My end goal is to help students truly love writing by presenting them techniques to deeply analyze writing at its core. Every tutoring session goes beyond correcting grammar mistakes, instead diving into sentence structures, tone, lexicon (word choice/vocabulary), figures of speech, and many other writing choices that characteristically build an author's style. For the student, this leads to not only short term fixes and complete assignments, but also to long term improvement and autonomy as a writer.
I have worked with students ranging from freshman year in High School all the way to college seniors as well as those applying for master's degrees. Though each group is characterized by different goals, mindsets, and even communication habits, there is one trait in common: it is absolutely amazing to see how empowered students become once they realize how much they've grown in terms of their writing. They quickly go from simply writing to convey thoughts with no specific direction to writing with passion, confidently employing the best strategies to achieve their goals as a writer. With that in mind, what I enjoy the most about the work I do is being able to actively participate in students' growth and improvement as writers.
Trained at Northeastern University as per College Reading & Learning Association standards (CRLA credentials acquired).
Experience: Volunteer work as a writing tutor with 826 Boston; worked as a writing consultant at Northeastern University's Writing Center; previously editor-in-chief of an online publication.
