About Fiona

I've been drumming for over a decade, making an effort to implement percussion styles from all traditions and corners of the globe. My goal for my students is to instill a love, and passion for music and the history behind it. Whether that includes rock, jazz, or flamenco.

- Studied/gigged in Valencia, Spain for a year. Including the Musaico and Plasticero festivals.

- Played as a Worship Team Member at Flatirons Community Church for 5+ years.

- Worked as an Assistant Studio Technician at Bridge Studios for 10 years.

- Currently studying at Berklee College of Music as a performance major.

I have been taking private lessons myself for eleven years, with many different teachers. I know what it is like to be a student. Now, as I study at Berklee, I have had certain professors trust me with teaching class material if they are unable to come to class and, I have tutored many students outside of class. These experiences showed me how enriching it is to foster growth in other people.

About the lesson

My first steps always include getting a feel for the student's experience in the subject matter and, learning what their goals and interests are regarding the instrument. Everyone learns in different ways and is passionate about different things so, it is important to me that I understand how to teach them in an uplifting way.

I would tell them to find someone that makes them excited to learn. I have had many teachers that pushed me through fear. This is an unnecessary tactic and those teachers are not worth a student's time. Find someone you respect, who inspires even when they are no longer your teacher.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It is absolutely necessary for students to communicate their personal, and professional needs. It is my hope that my students would be comfortable voicing these needs. For personal issues, a student should consider what they have to say thoroughly, to allow for proper and effective communication. For professional needs, a student should consider their objective in these lessons so I can help them achieve those goals! And, of course, these things are subject to change, I am happy to help the student figure these things out to the best of my ability.

As every person is on a different path, I am open to negotiation. Most private instructors are paid $30-45 per half-hour lesson. I typically use this guideline when discussing price.
