About Hayden

Almost every student I've worked with has made an enormous amount of progress, developed facility, musicality, vocabulary and the ability to intelligently listen.

Lessons are the highlight of what I do, and many times are highlights of my students weeks as well. Music teaches skills that are applicable in virtually every facet of life, and nothing brings me more satisfaction as an istructor than seeing my students succeed and progress in ther studies, and more importantly seeing how music impacts their lives going forward as people.

My name is Hayden, and I am beyond excited to share, teach and explore the world of fun that percussion and music in general has to offer! I am a professional percussionist and drummer based in the Athens / Atlanta, GA region, and I am currently finishing my degree in Percussion Performance / Jazz Studies at the University of Georgia, Hugh Hodgson School of Music. As a teacher and instructor, I have been teaching privately, and instructing high school percussion for nearly 8 years.

Teaching private lessons is among one of the most important facets of music to me, and I have always viewed teaching lessons as one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do. I have privately taught students as young as 7th grade, to as old as high school seniors preparing for honor festival and college auditions, with an immense level of progress in almost every case.

My approach to teaching addresses students as individuals first. Lessons focus on student / instructor curated goals, as well as developing a level of technical and musical proficiency that allows them to excel in any musical setting through the use of technical exercises, etudes, improvisations, listenings, transcriptions, recordings, etc. I offer lessons in general percussion, (Snare Drum / Mallets / Drumset / Hand Percussion / Timpani) as well as any specific percussion instrument you may want to study intently. I look forward to working with you soon!

About the lesson

My approach to working with new students revolves around getting as much information about them as I can. Information like how long you’ve played, instructors you’ve worked with before, music you like, artists that inspire you, personal and musical goals, etc. are all things I take into account when developing a very personalized curriculum and approach for every student.

Details

I once was (and still am) paying for lessons, and I understand how expensive of a cost they can be. That being said, I try to make pricing for lessons as reasonable and flexible as possible. I typically charge $30 an hour, and $15 for a half hour.
