About Selena

I'm a current college student at Wagner College looking to help other college students understand how to structure essays, have a solid writing flow, and most importantly cite correctly. I am currently a junior who is on the dean's list with a GPA of 3.7 due to my writing proficiency and my arts abilities.

I like to help people. That's really what I boils down to. I typically work with children, but believe it or not I find adults are far easier to work with and usually with some nudging in the right direction they can easily go from unknowable to proficienct.

When my niece was born, I was only 17 at the time, but she inspired me to be the person I am today. Shes the light of my life and the reason why I strive to help people in need.

I'm currently a daycare worker who teaches children basic skills and knowledge. I am also trained to work as a Para and am currently a college student working towards a dual masters in education/ special education and art.

About the lesson

I usually like to get a baseline of where the students skills are at by either discussing with them where they believe they're having trouble, or if they aren't sure where the issue is I will sometime have them write a short essay or show me past work. This helps me pin point problem areas and more accurately educate them on the subject

I have worked with all kinds of different children and adults. I've working with children with disabilities and attention deficit disorders. I am not a discriminatory person and will accept anyone with all type of different backgrounds.

Make sure they are patient. This subject isn't one that should be rushed. Essays writing is one of the most important skills to have in college and can make or break a college career. It is vitally important to work on and develop this skill.

I recently started student teaching and had bonded with a particular student that had a disability. Althought I am not permitted to talk about the students lives outside of the school, I will say he made my experience an amazing one and I hope once everything is worked out with the coronavirus that I could see him again one day.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I believe it is important to be upfront and honest about where you believe your skill level is at. Make sure to discuss before hand what you expect from these lessons and what you would like to gain as a result. Communication is very important and if there are any kinds of accomodations or issues they should be discussed prior.
