About Emma

I studied Fine Art and Education at Emory & Henry College and graduated with a BA in Education in 2013. I have been a middle school Art teacher for 5 years but my passion is helping all different kinds of people open up their creativity and enjoy the process of art-making. I studied oil painting in college and I have seen first hand how powerful painting is for people of all levels. I want to help you discover a practice that you may have never tried before or just want to get some guidance to achieve your goals in art. I would love to be that facilitator for you! I also studied drawing and printmaking, and would be more than happy to teach the basics of both as well!

I love that moment of surprise after a brushstroke when you know you've captured something special. I love when my students build that confidence in themselves to just let go and create without worry or concern for "what it looks like" but for how it makes them feel. I consider it a privilege to witness that moment with my students.

I have always loved art and drawing since I was a kid. I never had the opportunity to take an Art class in high school. When I started college I registered for a ceramics course for fun, and I was hooked. I planned to major in History but became an Art Major my second year because I couldn't get enough of the art classes. I picked up education next because I wanted to become a Art Teacher so that I could help open the world of art to kids. I love teaching all people, and you can start learning, no matter your age or experience!

I have been a middle school Art teacher for 5 years and I have taught at local art camps such as Summer Sizzler in Polk county, NC. I my goal for my students is for them to feel successful, fulfilled and empowered by their art-making.

About the lesson

I like to get to know my students to better understand their personal goals for themselves as artists. My intention is to mold the lessons to the student.
