About Susan Jill

I am a Classically trained artist , also Licensed Professional Art Therapist as well as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Registered Play Therapist.

Susan Jill Hedges, M.Ed., ATR-BC, LPAT, LPCC, RPT

I love art. Art is personal expression. I love to facilitate art experiences for others. It gives me great joy to see the look on the face of an individual who has just created something beautiful which they did not believe they were capable of. That new self-awareness gives joy and happiness, and that is a most wonderful thing.

I have been teaching something for the past 35 years, whether Literacy for Adults, Business Law, Cooking, and Art Lessons. I currently also teach a class in Law for Counselors in Kentucky.

I have a degree in Fine Arts with a double major in Painting and Printmaking from Indiana University at Bloomington, and also a Masters degree in Education from the University of Louisville. Over the years I studied in Europe at the Art Academy in Hamburg, Germany and also at the Taos Art Institute in New Mexico. I also have a minor in Art History. I currently work as an Art Therapist and Art Teacher.

About the lesson

I would like to make a plan with the student about what they wish to achieve and create. When we determine what the student wishes to achieve, we can determine the steps to achieve that goal.

I have worked with all ages of students, adult and children, but have a specialty working with individuals with multiple disabilities and special needs. I have more than 10 years experience working with preschool special needs population.

Think about what you want to accomplish, communicate that to your instructor, and trust the process and fully engage in program the instructor designs for you.

I recently received a Gold Leaf award from the International Rotary Association for volunteering in my community.

What are my goals: Long term and short term? Jotting down a few ideas on a list would be ideal. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you ask yourself that question?

Also, think through the schedule in a serious manner. Am I ready to actually commit to a course of study at this time?
