About Shelly

I began teaching directly out of College. I have taught in middle school programs, Saturday art classes for children at a University, and Community College courses.

I have a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis, a Bachelor fo Fine Arts from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, studied in France at a painting school in Aix-en-Provence, and continue to paint myself...of course.

About the lesson

Each class is built upon the class before. Each class will include warm-up, review, new information and time to develop the new concept in painting or drawing. The student can progress more quickly if they practice at home.

We live in a diverse city! My students come with many degrees of experience. I have worked with the very young (4-5 year olds) up to retirement age students.

I think one should feel very comfortable with a teacher. A teacher should be approachable, open to new ideas, and have a true desire to get a student to that next level.

A recent teaching event: I was able to attend an innovations academy that spoke about how we can get our students to think more about what they are thinking as they learn new concepts. If we can encourage students to find relationships between what they are learning and what they already understand, they will think more and retain and enjoy the education process.
