About Derek

Hello and Welcome

I am a self-taught artist whose passion for sketching evolved from a childhood hobby into a dedicated pursuit of drawing with various mediums, and now I am thrilled to share this journey with aspiring artist through my tutoring.

Engage in creative and imaginative elements of drawing art using exciting materials, in an interactive environment teaching skill-based fundamentals using step-by-step instructon to young artist.

Drawing for fun: (ages 5 to 7)

Tools: pencil, crayons, markers, white blank paper

Learn: exercising eye-hand coordination, fine motor skills, observation, imagination, etc., while understanding the concept of pencil/crayon to paper creates colors, lines, basic shapes, scribbling and doodling.Staying focused on creative projects in clear manageable steps.

Step-by-step Drawing: (ages 8 to 11)

Tools: pencil, crayons, coloring pencils, sketchpad

Learn: skilled-based fundamentals of form, strokes, lines, edges, solid shapes, light & shadow, shading, color wheel, color mixing, coloring technique, etc., with warm-ups and step-by-step how to draw instruction. Embracing mistakes as opportunities to learn and improve.

Traditional Drawing: ADVANCE (Inquire)

Tools: pencil, eraser, sketchpad

Learn: fundamentals/elements/principles/techniques/refining of drawing/sketching. This means students learn to draw what they see rather than what they think they should and practice by sketching what’s in front of them every day.

• For ages 5 to 11 (grades K to 6th)

• All lessons are one-on-one.

• “Online” or “you travel to me”.

• Students are responsible for their own supplies.

Subjects can be:

Animals, Cartoon, Character, Chibi, Fantasy, Line art, Nature, etc.

(Advance only: Comic book, Figure, Perspective, and Realism).

Mediums used: Pencil, pen, crayons, markers, coloring pencils, and pastels.
