About Gonzalo
I will walk along with you on this journey to unlock your creative potential and release the artist inside you while also learning how to paint. My name is Gonzalo, and I have been painting for almost 20 years. I teach lessons of 60 + minutes for beginners and intermedia art students, with a focus on drawing and painting. I usually work with a specific curriculum, but I’m totally open to new ideas and/or personal projects. We will work with different mediums (Acrylic, oil, charcoal, pencil, watercolor) as well as investigating several surfaces (canvas, board, paper, etc). I have always been very passionate about the process of art making and the exploration of mediums and techniques. I am also very attracted to our unique approach and to the important meaning of laying materials on a flat surface. One thing I enjoy about teaching is seeing my students pushing beyond their comfort zones. Those are truly magical moments, and also very rewarding. Those are the moments where painting happens and we all benefit from it.
I have an associate degree with a major in studio-arts from Pasadena City College and I also studied privately with several teachers throughout my carrier.

My typical process is first to find out where the student finds himself/herself in terms of knowledge. We will work in a series of loose and control projects of brushwork, color and materials. Simultaneously, I will ask the student what are his/her artistic goals. My primary strategy is to challenge the student to unlock the yet unknown artist that is eager to come out.

For a totally beginner like me, Gonzalo was a great find. He has a vast knowledge about drawing and painting technique, and also about art history, that is something I’m really interested.
