About Ami

My name is Ami Aguiar-Riley and I have been in the dance industry as a dancer, instructor and choreographer, for 25 years. I have trained for over 18 years as a dancer and have been recognized nationally for my talent. I was on the hit TV show "So You Think you can Dance" as a contestant season 7. I have also worked for and with some of the dance industries most respected teachers and choreographers.

My studio offers all the classic Dance forms, such as: Ballet, Tap, Jazz/Contemporary, HipHop and Pointe. We also offer classes in Strength training and Body Conditioning, aso well as private training in Musical Theater and Choreography. I offer a healthy, positive and disciplined environment for all levels of dancer to explore their own creativity and passion, while they explore the world of dance movement and choreography.

I was voted to be captain of my High School Dance team at age 15, the youngest team captain the team had seen, and I instructed organized and motivated my team mates. We became one of the tap teams during my tenure and I realized I enjoyed it. My Mentor made me her teachers assistant at age 16 and the following year I began teaching myself.

I trained in all the classic Dance forms for over 20 years under local instructors as well as some of the industries most prestigious teachers. I have been teaching Dance for the past 18 years and have been nationally recognized for my choreography. I have a degree in child psychology and have applied my academic education to my teaching methods in dance.

About the lesson

First I speak with the parent and/or student about their motivation for learning or training in the art of dance. Then we go over any previous experience and discuss what they would like the end goal to be. From there we decide whether proceeding with group classes or private one on one training would be most beneficial to reach those goals.

I have worked with students ranging from age 2 to well into adulthood. All levels of training, including professionals, and in all so dance styles. My role ranges from teacher, choreographer to Mentor.

Find someone that is willing to give you what you want. Make sure your end goal is clear. There are many places to train and many talented teachers, you just have to find what fits for you.

I have been asked to judge a National Dance Competition for the 2016/2017 Season.
