About Brandy
Ours is a class where beginner and intermediate students may find that balance of nurturing and motivation to comfortably take them to the next level if they are consistent. We are conveniently located at 4450 Broadway at 191st Street in Manhattan (10040). You'll get a good workout in a class that's fun! This class has also put motivated students onstage at Harlem Hafla. Look for Harlem Hafla on Facebook and YouTube! Our website is (concealed information)
Watching my students' progress and joy of movement is an amazing experience. It doesn't matter to me where you begin. Growth is the most important thing.
I was a good student and performing a bit earlier than I would now recommend. My teachers would ask me to substitute when other teachers were absent and the reviews were all good.
I am actually a certified academic teacher so my process of explanation and breakdown---even the differentiation for various levels is unique. I have been belly dancing for over a dozen years. I had prior dance training in ballet, modern, West African and Caribbean dance but this is another realm and paradigm so I only count these most recent years.

I take new students through the basic steps, transitions, isolations, walks and veil movements to fast-track their learning.
I typically get beginners and intermediates. I also teach choreographies so that students may dance on their own. We do student showcases at restaurants during the year. Our culminating event is Harlem Hafla, each Summer. You may Google it or look on YouTube for more information.
Observe the class, first. See if you like the teaching style and activities. Decide upon your goals (fitness, performing, learn a new skill, activity partners) and discuss those goals with the teacher. Also, see if the level of structure and format are right for you. If their teaching style is in alignment with your own goals and learning style, that could be a good fit for you.
I would have to say that creating and seeing so many students (past and present) either dancing in or supporting Harlm Hafla is my fondest dance memory. Their feedback let me know that we're on the right track. It was such a unique experience. We will be doing it again, each year!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should think about whether they can be consistent. It's the way people learn. Do observe the class and decide if the teaching style is what you need. All other questions flow from there.

We are living very tumultuous time and Belly dancing afford you the opportunity to be transported to a sacred space where you become one with the ancient rhythm. That's a priceless gift you get from Sisters of Sharqui
Class is fun. The teacher is down to earth.
I had never taken a belly dance class before, but I had always wanted to. At 57 years old, overweight and out of shape, I was kind of afraid to get started. But I had met Brandy at an event and I said I would give her class a try. Well, any worrying on my part was for nothing. Brandy was very patient, caring and knowledgeable about bellydance. She broke everything down so that the moves were understandable and doable. This wasn't done for me specifically, but this is the way she teaches. Then she encourages you to give each move your best shot, always getting more out of you than you think you can do yourself. I have gone from being a reluctant participant to a dedicated student with the desire to perform. I could not recommend Sisters in Sharqui more strongly or with more enthusiasm. Join us in class, you will not be disappointed.
