About Lena

For me, teaching dance is a practice centered in generosity. I teach to lead my students to a deeper understanding of themselves, their bodies, their worth, their minds, and their creativity. I encourage exploration, questioning, acceptance, mindfulness, and patience. My hope is that through dance, we can become kinder and more open people, experience our collective humanity, create a healthy work ethic, and understand that we all play a part in the larger picture. I have worked as a professional contemporary dancer, and completely understand the difficulty of the field. But, I also understand how passion, hard work, and creativity can keep dancers loving dance for their whole life. My goal is to provide an experience for each of my students that is comprehensive, healthy, postiive, innovative, and fun!

I enjoy providing the space for my students to learn how to express themselves, challenge the limits of their self-worth, gain strength and sensitivity, and develop an understanding of the importance of self-care and the arts.

I received a BFA in Dance from the University of Michigan where I completed a teaching methods/pedagogy course. Since then I have been teaching ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip hop at studios throughout DFW, and dancing professionally with Dark Circles Contemporary Dance.

About the lesson

When working with a new student I like to ask him or her some preliminary questions. These questions center around the student's goals for the lessons and any strengths or weakness they feel they have. I then like to devise a lesson plan and structure and ask for their feedback before getting started.
