About Carmen

Carmen Melendez is a bilingual dance instructor and choreographer, born and raised in the city of Chicago. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in Dance from Northeastern Illinois University, and she currently studies Applied Behavior Analysis at National Louis University while directing the private dance project she co-founded, Dance With Carmen Dance Company. Carmen is the recipient of multiple scholarships for academic excellence and leadership, and her passion for dance performance, choreography, and education continues to grow across her 12+ years of professional experience in her craft.

Carmen’s dance training is exceptionally well rounded, including such diverse forms as ballet, contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, acrobatics, flamenco, salsa, mambo, bachata, cumbia, and more. Her dance performance credentials include both national and international appearances with the NEIU Repertoire Dance Ensemble, The Moves Project, Bachata Legacy Dance Company, Urban Vibe Dance Company, Jasso Dance Company, New Era Dance Company, and more. In 2008, Carmen began teaching dance as an assistant, graduating to a full instructor and choreographer in 2012 while covering beginner to advanced level dance education and choreography across her broad range of styles. As a result, Carmen also achieved over 10 years of experience choreographing dance for such special events as quinceañeras, weddings, birthday parties, formal dance recitals, and more.

At this stage in her career, Carmen is especially interested in finding promising candidates to join her very own project, Dance With Carmen Dance Company Pro. This is one of the only privately owned dance companies in America today that not only offers budget friendly classes for every skill level of dancer but also completely tuition-free opportunities for adult performance training. In the future, Carmen hopes to expand her dance company’s work to include paid performance placements for adult dancers as well as instruction, choreography, and performance for children and youth.
