I started teaching, because I thought I'd share this with others.

When it comes to working with a new student, I show them all their options. And I show them how to set their hand placement and crocheting loosely, and I show them how to count evenly. And to not stress too much about your project.
I have worked with completely new beginners.
I would give the advice of, I have been doing this for years. I am at the point where I don't need patterns anymore. There are some things I need patterns for. But I know how to crochet basically anything. And I will help and work with you.
A recent event is whenever I crocheted about 15 hats and about 15 scarves to the homeless.
